Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Account details. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name and email address — or an Apple private relay address, if you choose to hide your email — and, from Google, your profile photo.
Your profile. Your display name, avatar, profile photo, and the vehicles you add to your garage, including their setup and photos.
Content you create. Runs you record, routes you save, trail reports and pins, photos, posts, comments, reactions, events you create or respond to, clubs, and messages you send to other users.
Messages to us. Support requests and feedback.

Location

Ohver is a location app. This is exactly when it uses your location:

While the App is open, to show you on the map and list trails near you.
Live sharing, which is on by default. While the App is open, your position, display name, avatar and selected vehicle are shown to other Ohver users on the map, updated every few seconds while you’re moving. You can turn live sharing off in the App at any time. It stops when the App goes to the background, unless you’re on a run.
During a run — recording, navigating, or in a convoy — we collect precise location, including while the App is in the background, to record your track and guide you. If you’re in a convoy or driving a shared route, your position is shared with the other drivers on it for the length of the run.

We don’t collect your location in the background when you’re not on a run.

Motion

During a run, the App uses your phone’s motion sensors to measure your vehicle’s pitch, roll and cornering force. This is calculated on your phone; the highest values are saved with the run.

Contacts (optional)

If you use Find Friends, the email addresses and phone numbers in your contacts are turned into one-way cryptographic hashes on your phone, and only those hashes are compared with Ohver users. Your contact list itself is never uploaded or stored. If you let friends find you, we store a hash of your own email address, and of your phone number if you add one.

Photos and camera

Only the photos you choose to add.

Meshtastic radio (optional)

If you pair a Meshtastic radio over Bluetooth, the App sends your position, display name and convoy signals over the radio. Radio transmissions can be received by anyone listening on that channel, and we don’t operate that network.

Usage, device and diagnostic data

Features you use and screens you view; your device model, operating system and app version; identifiers; and crash, performance and battery diagnostics provided by iOS.
Session recordings. We may record how you use the App — captures of its screens as you move through them — to find bugs and improve the design. Text you type is masked in these recordings.
If you allow notifications, a device push token.

2. What other people can see

Ohver is social, and some information is visible to other people by design:

Your public profile — display name, avatar, profile photo, garage, off-road miles, trails completed and badges — can be viewed by anyone, including people who aren’t signed in.
Leaderboards show your display name, avatar, selected vehicle and ranking.
Posts, comments, reactions, routes you publish, trail reports, events and club activity are visible to the audience you share them with.
Your position while live sharing is on, and during a convoy or shared route, as described above.
Direct messages are visible to the people in the conversation.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

Provide maps, trail information, run recording, navigation, convoys and the social features;
Create and manage your account;
Operate, maintain, debug and improve the App;
Communicate with you — service messages, support, and push notifications if you allow them;
Understand how the App is used, through analytics;
Detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse and security issues;
Comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We don’t sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral (“targeted”) advertising, or use your location for advertising.

We share information with service providers that help us run the App, under contracts that limit how they can use it:

Information is also shared with other Ohver users as described in What other people can see. We may also share information:

To comply with the law, legal process, or enforceable government requests;
To protect the rights, safety and property of Ohver, our users or others;
In connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, with notice as required.

We don’t otherwise share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing.

5. Your choices

Live sharing: turn it off in the App at any time.
Location: change location access in your iPhone’s Settings. Without it, the map can’t show where you are and runs can’t be recorded; without background access, a run stops recording when the screen locks.
Contacts, camera, photos and Bluetooth: turn off access to any of them in your iPhone’s Settings. The App uses Bluetooth only to connect to a Meshtastic radio.
Push notifications: turn them off in your iPhone’s Settings.
Your content: delete individual runs, posts and other content in the App.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep information only as long as we need it.

Account information and content are kept while your account is active.
Runs are kept while your account is active so you can look back at them. You can delete individual runs at any time.
Live positions are replaced as you move and removed when you stop sharing or end a run. A position left behind if the App closes unexpectedly stops being shown to other users within minutes, and a convoy position within two hours.
Deleting your account: delete it in the App, or email us at hello@ohver.app. We delete your account information and content within 90 days, except where we must keep it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
Analytics data is kept in identifiable form for up to 24 months, then aggregated or deleted.
Backups: residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our regular cycle, within 90 days.

7. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you;
Correct inaccurate information;
Delete your information;
Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information;
Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

California residents: you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including those above. We don’t sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, so there’s nothing to opt out of.

EU and UK residents: where the GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you (providing the App), your consent (for example, for precise location and push notifications), and our legitimate interests (improving and securing the App). You also have the right to data portability and to complain to your supervisory authority.

To exercise any right, email hello@ohver.app. We may need to verify your identity.

8. Children

The App is for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn we have, we delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

10. International transfers

We’re based in the United States, and your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.

11. This website

ohver.app doesn’t use cookies or analytics. Its fonts are served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when you load a page, and our hosting provider keeps standard request logs.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy. We’ll post the new version with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, tell you in the App.

Copyright complaints

If you believe content in the App infringes your copyright, email hello@ohver.app with: identification of the copyrighted work; identification of the infringing material and where it appears in the App; your contact information; a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you’re authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf. We’ll review and remove infringing content as appropriate.
